WaysideAbout this home

As north Cotswold addresses go, it doesn’t get much better than this. Located in the small village of Salford, close to the more widely known, Chipping Norton; Wayside is quite simply, a fantastic home. Believed to date back to the 17th Century with later additions, Wayside elegantly blends contemporary and traditional living.

The quality of craftsmanship is evident throughout and the current owners have carried out a complete renovation project with close attention being made to retain the original character and charm, yet have created a home that very much suits modern day living. The property has a warm and inviting feel, with generously proportioned rooms and provides the most superb spaces for modern family living as well as entertaining inside and out. Some highlights are;

A beautifully appointed, hand built kitchen which is very much the heart of the home and offers a perfect space to entertain.

The property has undergone a complete renovation with works including a new water and heating system, reinsulating of floors and walls, new roof and driveway to name just a few.

The owner has a real design flair and an eye for detail, the result being a home that very much has a compelling mix of light, modern spaces yet cleverly retains much of the period charm and character.

Fashionable, Crittal doors and windows have been installed and are the same manufacturer as the ones found at the nearby Soho Farmhouse.

The four bedroom, three bath/shower rooms, arranged over the first floor, makes for comfortable family living.

The quality of craftmanship and attention to detail is evident throughout with each bedroom and bath/shower room very much having their own individual feel.

The main bedroom is particularly impressive, having wonderful views across the garden and the most impressive ensuite bath/shower room.

The garden is mostly laid to lawn and is interspersed with a variety of trees and shrubs as well as well-established flower beds.

To the rear of the house is a large terrace which is perfect for those who enjoy al fresco dining. Large Crittal doors open out from the kitchen/breakfast/sitting room to form a seamless link between the inside and out.

The area is well renowned for not only having some of the most beautiful villages and countryside, but also some of the most fantastic pubs and restaurants the area has to offer.

The AreaChipping Norton

Salford is a small Oxfordshire village set in farmland about 1.5 miles west of the historic market town of Chipping Norton.

The Shakespeare’s Way long-distance trail leads across the fields from Chipping Norton to Salford and crosses the small brook, a tributary of the River Evenlode, which some think gives Salford its name (from the Old English Sealhford, meaning the ford by the willow trees). Another possibility is that the name comes from an old salt track, a route used by traders carrying salt from the Midlands to London.

‍The history of Salford goes back as far as the 8th Century.  There were two manors at the time of the Norman Conquest.  The most interesting historical building is the 12th Century parish church, St Mary’s, which stands at the western end of the village.

Occupying the highest point of Oxfordshire, Chipping Norton is a bustling market town located around 23 miles northwest of Oxford in the Cotswold Hills. Like many Cotswold towns, Chipping Norton is incredibly pretty, many of the original houses around the market place were rebuilt in the 18th century with fashionable Georgian frontages.  The town’s wealth grew through the local wool trade and today, Chipping Norton is renowned for its antique shops and diverse shopping, including a regular market. Chipping Norton retains a robust living, working market town atmosphere, there is a good choice of places to eat, supermarkets and top-quality entertainment at the wonderful theatre, famous for its pantomime and visiting performers.

If that wasn’t enough, another attraction is the proximity to Soho Farmhouse, Daylesford and some of north Cotswold’s most renowned pubs – all a short drive away, merely adding to the appeal of this superb area.

For more comprehensive shopping and recreational needs, Oxford, Cheltenham and Stratford-upon-Avon are within striking distance as are a number of popular schools. The area is well-connected to some of London’s fastest rail-links with Kingham station only 5 miles away and good access to the A34 and M40.
